The workshop room
This room was set up by the restoration workshops of the Federal Furniture Administration in order to demonstrate various techniques involved in furniture-making.
The white and gold dining chair dating to around 1850 has been prepared for demonstration purposes by the restoration workshops so that the individual steps in the processes of upholstery as well as painting and gilding are clearly visible.
A whole range of different woods used in furniture-making can be seen behind hinged panels and touched in their raw state as well as in all the different working stages up to the polishing process.
This panel demonstrates the different qualities of gold leaf, from white gold to double ducat gold, and shows various working techniques such as spirit-gilding or oil gilding.
